Do not view this as a scare tactic to sell baby car seats. This is a fact. Thousands of children die in auto accidents each and every year. How many of these could have been avoided? We should always wear our seat belts and point out the importance of doing so to our children. Children can be creatures of habit. They will follow what you demonstrate for them. Do not use baby car seats because it is the law. Do it because it is the right thing to do, to protect your child.

Here are a few pointers about baby car seats. Infants that are less than a year old, should always be in a rear facing baby car seat, and always in the back seat. Never put your infant baby car seat in the front, especially if you have an air bag. If the air bag is set off, it will hit your child at head level, causing serious or fatal damage. It is simply not worth the risk. Infant seats are normally small and carried by a handle. Once a child reaches one year of age, they can graduate to a convertible. Not the car yet, but a baby car seat that can be faced frontward's or backwards. However, it is always better to face the baby car seat to the rear, as long as you can do so. These toddler convertible baby car seats will have 5 point straps and T-Shields.

School age children, up until the age of 8, can utilize a booster seat. However, they must still be properly restrained with a seat belt, lap and shoulder harness. Children 8 and older should remain in the back seat, utilizing seat belts, until they are 13 years of age. For some reason, all children want to set in the front seat. Perhaps, they just want to be closer to their parents. Then again, moving to the front seat seems to be a step into adulthood. Children feel like a grown up when they are allowed to set in the front. However, to allow a child to set in the front when they are too young, puts them at risk to serious or fatal injury. Once again, it is not worth the risk. Utilize baby car seats.
